Review of Crimson Peak (2015) by Robert I — 20 Feb 2016

I kept hearing polarizing things about this film. I finally settled in and watched it... And I'm one of the people who LOVED IT!

I watched it at home, in the dark, with 7.1 surround sound headphones. This is utterly the way to watch this gorgeous movie. I'm sure the theater was nice too, but this way gives that a hell of a run.

No one I talked to beforehand likened this to the first "Hellraiser". And that's the barometer that needs to be set here. This too is Gothic Horror, but with soap opera human interactions - and with a great deal of blood. I love all those elements. The story is horrifying. The directing is perfection. The world captivating. Sets, costumes, art design - everything is on its game. The first act is alluring, the second act haunting, and the final act breathtakingly exciting. Well done all around!
