Review of Crimson Peak (2015) by Jonathan C — 25 Mar 2016
Like always, Guillermo is the best at what he does, perhaps since the Grimm Brothers themselves. No one else can create a story so earnest, beautiful, and innocent surrounded by so much darkness, death, and horror. It's simply amazing, and the cast are all stellar. I particularly enjoyed watching Jessica seethe through her role like an almost feral animal soooo much ~.
The only, only thing that threw off the movie at times are the sometimes poorly cgi'd ghosts. The movie may have been more effective without them in full view, only visible or heard in the shadows to give it a less B feel when they showed up...
The scenery, set design, costumes, were all so amazingly rendered and realized. The house itself is such an amazing location and will hopefully be a regular haunt for myself in my dreams :).
