Review of Crimson Peak (2015) by Robert L — 11 Jul 2016
If you enjoy slasher films like Halloween, this movie isn't for you. I find it highly ironic that people claim Crimson Peak doesn't have a plot because I find more content here than in such movies as Cabin Fever or Hostel.
This is Gothic Horror. Look it up if you must, but this film is meant to represent storytellers like Edgar Allen Poe or Charlotte Brontë. Fans, like myself, enjoy the slower pace and beautiful settings and cinematography.
I also didn't find it at all gory (Slither gets my vote in that department). The story does slow here and there and this is not by far Del Toro's best work, but I enjoyed the throwback to a form of fiction that Hollywood has long since destroyed.
