Review of Crimson Peak (2015) by Jess_Hill — 18 Oct 2015
This visually spectacular Victorian Gothic horror is sumptuous and grand in scale; however, it is sadly lacking in most other areas. The performances are as good as they can be, given the dismal script, and whilst the sets and costumes are sublime, the storyline is superficial and lacking the complexity of a truly intriguing ghost tale, with pacing that could have better managed the tension.
Some truly awful post production lip-synching issues are horribly distracting, to the point I assumed they were part of the plot, and while I enjoyed watching the beautiful pictures, this is otherwise a disappointing film.
