Review of Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) by Rasmus P — 24 May 2008
"The eyes of God are always on us" This has been told in a religious Jewish family, inferences that even if you get away with crime, your self conscience will be your punishment.
This is very interesting, fascinating movie indeed. Not just because of attributions to famous movie scenes or poets or writers (whether it is the old testament or Shakespeare, murder will out) (I loved that). This movie also gives us the opportunity to observe the change in beliefs year after year (family dinner scene). That at some point, there could be such thing as perfect crime and if you can rule out your conscience, you can live the rest of your life free as birds. And the monologue of Judah at the end definetely explains this. And also Woody Allen deals with that subject later in Match Point.
Definetely recommending this movie.
