Review of Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) by Jonathan B — 07 Aug 2008
This could have been one of Woody Allenâ??s best comedies or a great tense drama, but it ended up being just middle of the road in both categories. I think he should have separated the two story lines and expanded upon them.
I am not going to say this is not a good film overall. The comedy part of this film gets very funny, with more of Woody Allens great one liners per-minute than any other of his movies that I have seen so far.
And the dramatic story is very well written and acted. But I just do not think they worked together all that well. I recommend watching this film, or watching Annie Hall and Match Point back to back if you have the time.
