Review of Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) by Michael C — 22 Mar 2009
Another interesting human behavior exploration by Woody Allen. This one follows two distinct men faced with strong moral dilemmas, one of them more serious and one more comical; the alternation between these two stories seems as if it would throw off the tone severely, but Allen's direction allows it to flow nicely.
It is cool to see Martin Landau in this film giving another great performance as he has always been a delight to watch but seems criminally underused. Allen once again plays a version of himself, but this consistent element in his different styles of films has always given his films a sense of continuity even despite their varied ways of being executed, and his verbal virtuosity is always exciting to listen to.
