Review of Cries and Whispers (1972) by Hassan A — 03 Sep 2007
This hilarious comedy sensation will have you peeing in your pants and asking for more....pants, that is. No, not quite, although there are moments of unintended comedy, this film is a serious meditation on death, sex, fantasy, repression and loneliness.
In other words, all the ingredients that go into a Saturday night. The intense close up Bergman deploys places you right there in the emotional centre of the characters. Imagine Munch?s the scream being turned into a movie and you won?t be far off.
Not to everyone?s taste but if you sit through to the end, you?ll never forget this film.
