Review of Cries and Whispers (1972) by Jurgen H — 30 Oct 2007
So much beauty and so much pain. throughout much of this film there was such a wonderful undertone of grace through all the cold silence. I find incredible hope in almost all of bergman, however, though the end-note of the film seemed one of beauty and grace, the finality for the remaining sisters was one of the most hopeless (though piercingly true and human) i've seen in the bergman cannon.
one way or another he casts the most striking and powerful actresses.
