Review of Cries and Whispers (1972) by Amanda W — 09 Jan 2008
Ingmar Bergman - I have seen some of his films and this was definitely the best so far. Dark, haunting film about three sisters (one of who is dying). The emotions/desires of each sister are examined and Bergman definitely had the color red in mind to help tell his story.
I will never forget the scene where Harriett Andersson is screaming and of course, the scene with the broken glass. I am appreciating this movie more as I think about it. Painful to watch but will stay with me.
Bergman really was a master.
