Review of Cries and Whispers (1972) by Collin B — 19 May 2008
One of the best film directors of all time considers this to be his first or second most important work. So, I don't really even need to tell you that it's good. Still, here I am, telling you that it's good.
Really unbelievably good. Seriously brilliant in all aspects, from Bergman's script and direction to the incredible performances (Harriet Andersson is an artist) and Sven Nykvist's perfect cinematography.
Insane. I've yet to see a Bergman film that I didn't absolutely love, which is why he's probably my favorite filmmaker, but I found this one to be especially powerful. See.
