Review of Cries and Whispers (1972) by Deray A — 24 Dec 2009
Beautifully shot, baffling plot. Over the years I've developed quite an attachment to the works of Ingmar Bergman and had intended on watching "Cries and Whispers" for some time, but I was a bit disappointed with this work.
The acting was superb as is usual to suspect from a Bergman film, but the plot was so lush with emotion and metaphor, by the end, I was confused as to what it was I'd actually watched. I can't say enough about the gorgeous sets, camerawork, and editing, all of which are superior to most films of the time.
This is definitely one that will take another viewing or two to completely comprehend. It was still interesting, and with all things included I'd tell you to watch it to see for yourself. Although, at this point in time, it's not even in Bergman's top 5...
