Review of Creepshow 2 (1987) by Matt V — 01 Apr 2011
I had heard terrible things about this film and that it didn't hold a candle to the original. Many people said the film was lame and not worth watching. I enjoyed the first Creepshow film, and it by far one of the best horror anthology films in the genre. But after reading reviews of this sequel, I was skeptical about seeing this film. I was shopping at Walmart one day, and I saw this film for 5$ in the bargain bin, so I figured what the hell? I watched it that night, and came out fairly surprised. For me the strongest stories in the film are The Raft and The Hitchhiker. Both stories are terrific and amusing.
Creepshow 2 is a step down from the previous film, but manages to still be entertaining. The stories presented here are average entertainment. The first of these tales is probably the weakest one in this anthology. The second and third stories like I've said are the best, but considering the first film is so good, this sequel is inferior and disappointing. However it's not bad, but compared to the first film, it leaves the viewer with a lot to desire. Also considering the cast involved in the first Creepshow, the cast assembled for this sequel is disappointing. Despite all of this, this is an entertaining bur flawed sequel that does manage to amuse the viewer despite the fact that the stories could have been a bit better.
