Review of Creed II (2018) by Siss0Rmetimbers — 18 Apr 2023
I have to come back here because of Creed 3. This movie is pretty damn solid. Its a real Rocky movie and it follows with the visuals and themes of those movies. That hard work and determination can overcome an insurmountable obstacle and that when you get knocked down, it doesn't matter.
What matters is you get up and keep fighting. The fights are epic, new aspects of the boxing world and real boxing personalities and real life stories are brought in. Creed 3 is not a Rocky movie. Creed 3 takes place in a fantasy world that doesn't have much to say and certainly doesn't have a believable plot line and the characters are non-sensical, almost looney-tune like.
This movie doesn't have the most unique plot but it touches on the generational boxing rivalries we're starting to see today like Eubank Jr. vs Conor Benn. It may not be a groundbreaking story but guess what, boxing has been around for a long time and history tends to repeat itself, its a boxing movie.
Not a Scorsese film. And in the end the fight scenes are brutally awesome and the tone is inspirational. Creed 3 forgets that. The tone of that film is dark despite the stakes feeling kind of stupid.
And again, the plotline is absolutely baffling. I'll take predictable seeing as that's what I want out of a Rocky film over baffling and stupid but new.
