Review of Creed II (2018) by Gerald H — 11 Dec 2018
Creed II (or Rocky VIII) is a throwback to the story telling and drama of Rocky I and II. It also has just the right touch of glitz and glamour of Rocky III and IV. This movie surprisingly hits you in the feels in more ways then one even though the plot is a simple tried and true formula. You really feel the chemistry between Creed's "family" and the situation they are in. Tessa Thompson and Stallone do a great job as supporting cast here. Another unexpected surprise was character development between Ivan Drago and his son. For years Rocky fans have wondered about him (and his wife), you will finally get some answers.
You can relate with Drago's reasons for revenge. I honestly would have liked to see more interaction between Rocky and Drago but I see now that this is more of "passing of the torch" film from Rocky to Apollo. WARNING: your enjoyment of this film will come down to drama vs action. If you expect alot of action, you might not like it, you might even hate the dramatic scenes. However, if you like boxing movies like "Southpaw" or the early Rocky films then you will probably like this film. Final Review: 9 out of 10.
