Review of Creed (2015) by Ajeya-Rajk — 06 Dec 2015
Fighting a way out of a bequeathed legacy is something CREED does as a movie just as much as its eponymous lead.Replete with training montages and feel good moments, this is a movie which is definitely a part of the Rocky pantheon and the best one in years.
Suprisingly,Stallone is in his element again after an eternity. It may not reinvent the genre but it revitalizes it.Well defined characters and relationships feel organic.Character traits are embellishments and not afterthoughts.
Characters themselves fit into existing templates, while staying true to their established traits.Nothing feels forced out of place, but at the same time,it feels new.The audience is part of every fight, flowing with every jab and floating with every dodge, seamlessly shot.
A few cliched framing devices in the third act notwithstanding,Hollywood has a bona fide movie star in Micheal B Jordan and a stellar director in Ryan Coogler.Along with FRUITVALE STATION,this pair is fighting 2-0-0.
JJ Abrams and Colin Trevrrow should take notes.
