Review of Creed (2015) by Randall K — 02 Apr 2016
My wife and I enjoyed this movie. It just isn't as good as the ratings and reviews are indicating.
Adonis's story was interesting. I liked how he worked hard to overcome tremendous odds. I teared up for him at the end of the fight. I wish we could have seen some growth from him with his temper tantrums, though.
I liked the Rocky part of the story and seeing how he's continued on with his life. My favorite part was the ending where he has trouble climbing the steps. It caused me to reflect on how life comes full circle and to think about my own mortality. In "Rocky" (1976), he was a young man and athlete who could make it up the steps easily. In "Creed" (2015), he has so much trouble but is standing next to a young man who can climb the steps as easily as he could before. It's really poignant.
Why was it necessary to imply that those who don't go through chemotherapy are either "being macho", ignorant, or just aren't willing to fight? The arrogance of some in the medical community and those who worship them is ugly. It's either their way or you're stupid. Maybe there are alternatives.
I didn't care for the rap soundtrack as opposed to traditional score.
We could do without the fornication and foul language, as well.
Overall, a pretty good movie.
