Review of Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) by Daniel W — 15 Aug 2009
A handful of scientists travel the Amazon to find the rest of a fish-man fossil, then end up under siege by the genuine article - an ill-tempered creature with a yen for dark-haired women in bathing suits.
CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON is a fairly effective B-movie that really clicks in scenes where the monster is attacking the marooned ship from just below the surface, but much less effective when the creature is seen slowly galumphing through brightly-lit caves.
As long as it stays true to the suspenseful siege aspects of the original, a remake of BLACK LAGOON wouldn't be a half-bad idea.
