Review of Creation (2009) by Matthew S — 18 Jan 2010
An amazing bio-pic centered around the story of Charles Darwin writing his famous: On the Origin of Species. I personally haven't read the piece - but am very interested in giving it a read over after seeing the film. This film was excellent - intriguing and kept alive by a Darwin who was haunted by the ghost of his dead daughter. Paul Bettany is at his best in this film and definitely delivers a great performance that shouldn't be ignored.
The only criticism I have of the film is that there was the huge 'science' vs. 'religion' conflict throughout the film and the entire film kept hinting at a form of reconcilliation between the two by the end of the film; and the 'reconcilliation' if you want to call it that is very weak and almost missable.
I personally believe a reconcilliation between religious faith and evolution can and does exist - and was hoping that the film would come together like that in the end - but despite that one criticism I thoroughly enjoyed the film and felt definitely engaged within this period bio-pic.
Definitely a must-see.
