Review of Creation (2009) by Asdren X — 03 Apr 2010
Intersting movie this but not at all what I was expecting. I was expecting a story on how Darwin came upon his amazing discoveries for his book 'On The Origin Of The Species' that is now one of the founding thoughts on how we percieve the world we live in.
Instead you get a period piece that concentrates on Darwin's internal struggles on getting the book published after 20 years of research. He stuggles with ill health, the death of his daughter Annie, marital problems and disenchantment with the highly religious world of that era.
It does make an interesing and entertaining movie, Bettany is great as Darwin and his beau in real life Jennifer Connelly is also great as his distant and grieving wife Emma. The main highlight of the movie for me were the scenes with Jennie the Oranguatan, when she is playing the harmonica and writing with a pencil, I couldn't help but watch in awe.
Sadly this scene doesn't really add much to the story but I wish it had. Decent but not great little movie, however it does serve as an interesting curio to anyone interested in Darwin.
