Review of Creation (2009) by Jc E — 13 Jul 2010
Honestly, for a film that chronicles the writing of Charles Darwin's "Origin of Species" I expected a lot more -- on both the storytelling level, and on the theory of evolution. However, it plays more like a rip-off of 'A Beautiful Mind' -- which is ironic, since this film's primary actors, Paul Bettany (Iron Man 2) and his wife, Jennifer Connelly (9), were both in that film as well.
For those who think that evolution is merely a theory, as opposed to a factual science, fear not. This film does nothing to solidify the improvable theory, and furthermore, has little to do with the aforementioned book at all.
It could, however, be taken as an example of how mad Darwin actually was. Though, anyone who would marry their cousin had to lose credibility at some point. Bettany and Connelly are both good actors, but the material they were given is lackluster, and they deserve better.
The film was generally dull, but the filmmakers should be given some amount of credit for an artful product with good music. It's too bad they had to have such a dire script to work from.
