Review of Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011) by Rhys E — 12 Nov 2012
Not your typical rom-com, Crazy, Stupid, Love. works because it's a smart film that doesn't rely on the lowest common denominator moves that other films in it's genre seem to put into play.
All of the characters are crafted nicely and put to good use (especially Steve Carell's character's young son), but the dynamic between the two male leads (Carell and Ryan Gosling) was surprisingly good. That's not to say the rest of the cast doesn't do their job, in fact - the whole ensemble is stellar, although Emma Stone steals the show every time.
