Review of Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011) by Ada M — 12 Nov 2013
The ultimate formulaic romantic comedy, with an exceptional cast perfectly fitting into a large jigsaw puzzle of a narrative, whose pieces somewhat come together so conveniently. The zippy script provides a hip, smart-ass approach to the many facets and complexities of love.
Steve Carell plays the sad-sack dad with a winsome familiarity that elicits much empathy from the audience. From the many TV comedians-turned-actors, he is probably the most naturally gifted at what he does.
To top that he's provided with top-notch support that includes the wonderful Julianne Moore & solid Ryan Gosling. While there are other smaller roles that shine, Emma Stone, once again, proves that she's a talented comedienne who combines grace and wit with every line and move she makes.
Fun & touching at once, as it ought to be.
