Review of Crazy Rich Asians (2018) by I_Ate_A_Pickle — 07 Sep 2018

I watched this romantic comedy with my family. It was such a nice, sweet, easy-going film for the most part.

Pros:

- The acting was superb! I mean superb! Especially Harry Golding and Constance Wu. I bought that these characters loved each other until the end of time.

- I love how Rachel came from a poor background whereas her boyfriend, Nick, came from a tycoon family. It creates legitimate tension at times.

- Singapore looks so pretty and spontaneous (esp. at night), and this movie sure did show us that.

- Great scene with Nick, Rachel, Elenor (Nick's mother), and Nick's grandmother where Elenor flat out says Rachel's dad was a horrible person and therefore Nick must dump Rachel because his high-class family cannot afford to have her family related to his. Lets be honest, who didn't feel emotion in that scene?

- Yah! Jimmy O. Yang is in this. His character brought this movie to a next-level comedy, even though he wasn't in it for long.

- The plot wasn't too entertaining throughout, but it at least bumped all the other aspects by a lot.

- One of the few romantic comedies out there that I think deserve to be called a "romantic comedy". I lost track of how many other films I watched that said they were "romantic comedies" but gave no romance or comedy.

Cons:

- Obviously lazy dialogue. I lost track of the number of redundant lines characters said.

- Ironically, even though this movie was trying to say the stereotypes about Asians are not all true, it included a few too many stereotypes about Asians. (And no, I am not counting the "Asians are all rich" stereotype here because the family being rich is a central element to the story.
