Review of Crazy Rich Asians (2018) by Abi L — 18 Aug 2018

The crowd was loud of laughter and tears. This movie brought the theater together in ways that I've never seen before during any other movie. Honestly, I haven't seen a theater so lively in quite some time. I went into the movie very excited for it being the first all Asian cast since 1993. When the movie started I was a little hesitant at first due to all the edits that were thrown in making it look like a cartoon, but it gets way better. I promise.

When they say it's a rom com they really mean comedy. Ken Jeong and Awkwafina made the movie hilarious. It's the kind of humor someone needs to hear. For the romance part some people are going to say that it's like any other romance story with a girl who falls in love with a rich boy, but aren't almost all romance movies similar to each other? It's just a twist that Asian Americans get. Is the romance still sweet? Of course.

Overall, the movie was like any rom com movie to me that we see in theaters or on tv with Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. Just a little more glamorous. It's just that this movie was made to tailor to Asian Americans like myself. This movie is suppose to be the big break for us Asians to get more screen time and I hope this movie does the job.

In my honest opinion, I'm really hoping for a sequel. I really want to see more of Astrid's character be brought to life. The cast was great and I wouldn't have replaced or added anyone else to it. I highly recommend taking the time to go see this warm hearted movie with family, a loved one, friend, or even just yourself.
