Review of Crazy Rich Asians (2018) by Joyce C — 21 Aug 2018
I didn't expect a whole lot going in. It's a romcom and realistically I don't generally expect romcoms to deliver too much beyond some light entertainment that I'll forget about the next day but this film ended up beingn so much more than I expected.
Even if its a version of the same story that's played out countless times there wasn't a point in the movie when I felt bored. Awkwafina was physically hilarious with how she carried herself and moved as her character and I was thoroughly charmed by the wit of the script tucked between genuine emotional moments.
I was moved by the Constance Wu's sincerity in her portrayal and surprisingly drawn even to the story of support characters. It's a romcom and delivers that light fun that I go in looking for but it gave me more than I expected back.
