Review of Crazy Heart (2009) by Robert H — 22 Dec 2010
This role seems like it was tailer made for Bridges. He fits it like a glove and puts forth a great performance. Unfortunately, the rest of the film feels incomplete and/or predictable. The other actors in the film did great jobs as well so it wasn't their fault and the music is entertaining. In fact, I think the fault of this film lies purely in the writing. At almost 2 hours in length I shouldn't feel like the film needed more but when it was over, I just kinda felt blah. I didn't really feel the depth of emotion and connection I'm sure I was supposed to when it came to these characters. I felt like I had seen the story before. And even really good acting can't overcome the blase feeling this film left me with.
Not a bad film at all, I just came away from it expecting more and that was going in without expectations to begin with.
If you like country music and dramas, you'll enjoy this one. Bridges is great to watch and very real. I just wish the film as a whole had more to offer.
