Review of Crazy Heart (2009) by Lynne N — 04 Jan 2011
Three things I love: country music, Jeff Bridges and Robert Duvall. And it's probably because of these three things that I enjoyed this movie so much, in spite of its slightly formulaic plot. Bridges looks completely at home on a stage in a stetson, strumming a guitar and so I was completely sold on his performance as Bad Blake.
Colin Farrell is also surprisingly impressive as his protegee-turned-rival, Tommy Sweet. If nothing else this is a film that loves its subject - that of country music - and the sub-plot that underlies Blake's redemption story is an exploration of how this genre of music has changed - from one man with a guitar and a heart-felt song, to an over-produced full-on stadium gig.
