Review of Crazy/Beautiful (2001) by Janika Maria B — 28 Mar 2013
Kirsten Dunst leads the cast in Crazy/Beautiful, and unconventional romantic film about star-crossed lovers. When the troubled daughter of a congressman falls for an overachieving football player from the inner city, the two begin a torrid romance.
The plot's a little formulaic and falls into some of the trappings of high school love stories, but the writing puts some new spins on the material that keeps it fresh. And, Dunst gives an outstanding performance that shows impressive depth and range.
Additionally, the soundtrack is especially well-done and brings a lot of energy and passion to the film. Despite having a few cliches, Crazy/Beautiful is a smart and sincere film with compelling characters.
