Review of Crawl (2019) by Thatdanner — 23 Jul 2019
Crawl was the best that it could've been with its ridiculous premise. The action and violence are amazing, as with most creature films. For a decently low-budget movie, the CGI is incredible. The atmosphere that was presented with the movie made it very tense and the trailer did a good job of hiding one of the biggest surprises in the movie.
..that there is not one, but hundreds of Alligators. The acting is passable (more passable than either's performances were in the Maze Runner series) from both the lead roles, this movie is genuinely shocking at points.
For once, the character development is actually demonstrated between the leads, making you end up hoping that they do not die. Unfortunately, the characters are all dumb as rocks and the horror tropes are unbearable.
There are also very noticeable inconsistencies with how they describe the Alligators; it's almost as if they didn't actually research Alligator behavior at all before writing the movie. However, if you're just looking for some tense and campy fun, this is one of the best of that kind in 2019.
