Review of Crash Pad (2017) by M W — 06 Nov 2017
Totally original and hilarious! It's been a long time since I saw a comedy with one-liners that made made me laugh so hard I missed the next lines. Domhnall Gleeson is amazing, playing the penultimate Sensitive Guy--I didn't even realize it was the same actor I saw in American Made and Ex Machina, where he played serious roles.
This movie has a lot to say about life and American culture between the lines. Even the beginning is original--starts in the middle of a scene that most films would spend 10-15 minutes building up to, and it works--we are quickly oriented through clever dialogue.
Of course, like all comedy (e.g., Austin Powers), some viewers will not "get it" and will think it's stupid. There is no slapstick in this movie--all the humor is in the dialogue and characters.
If you like this kind of thing, see it!
