Review of Crank (2006) by Jeremy W — 15 Oct 2010
Crank is definitely not a movie for everyone. It's violent, vulgar, doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and in general just fucked up. That's kinda why it's one of my favorite action movies of all time.
Jason Statham plays Chev Chelios, a hitman who is injected with an extremely potent and deadly poison even before the film begins. He soon realizes that in order to stay alive, he must keep his adrenaline up to keep his heart pumping. Using several interesting methods, he must find an antidote and get revenge on the people responsible.
I have to say Crank is one of the funniest action movies I've ever seen. There were several scenes where my friends and I just laughed out loud. This is most likely because of Jason Statham, whose comedic timing is almost perfect. I really don't see anyone else playing this character, and he's one badass mothafucka. Amy Smart is also funny and great as his ditzy girlfriend. The rest of the cast is also decent.
The action sequences themselves are almost nonstop and awesome. It's just fun and hilarious to watch. Many of the ways Chelios gets his adrenaline up are clever and funny (public sex, anyone?).
If you want a slightly dumb, illogical, but wholely fun action movie with a great actor in the lead, look no further. It's one of the most entertaining action movies you can find.
