Review of Couples Retreat (2009) by Dan J — 06 Dec 2010
Couples Retreat is a nice level down from bad humor, but with the supject it deals with it could have done a lot better.
As four couples find hard times in their relationship they plan a retreat vacation that turns out to not be like they expected it to be. This movie has some good actors in it like Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, Malin Akerman and action star Jean Reno, and as good as all these actors try to be, it's their characters that aren't as colourful or interesting to make this movie as good as it could have been. But the good thing is that this movie isn't filled with immature humor, the comedy is pretty good. Light, but better than the conventional comedies of today.
This movie is all about trying to fall in love again in a tropical paradise, so you better expect to see just that. Nice scenery shots, soothing music, pretty lights, yep, this is a romantic comedy. many uses of these beautiful enviroments are used in well organized shots and lighting.
This comedy isn't anything new, and the characters aren't stand-out, but that's not to say this movie is horrible. What it lacks in creativity it does gain as a nice movie to relax watching. Especially if Malin Akerman is in a bathingsuit.
