Review of Couples Retreat (2009) by Kat W — 24 Feb 2011

This was a pretty funny movie. The story revolves around four guys that are good friends and are all at different places in their lives along with their significant others. One of the four friends and his wife are having troubles getting pregnant and are considering getting a divorce. In an attempt to fix their marriage they want to go on an island vacation to a resort that deals in couples' therapy. They can't afford it though, so the only choice left is to convince the rest of their friends to tag along with them and take advantage of a group rate! The other three couples are convinced in to going based on a promise that they don't have to take part in any of the couples' activities, they can just play and relax their days away. But when they get there they find out it was a false promise! All four couples must take part in the couples' activities or leave the resort. Needless to say everyone involved finds out a lot they didn't know or couldn't see about their partner and all of a sudden everybody is questioning their own marriage!

There were a lot of funny parts to this movie, and I think couples that have been together for any length of time would especially enjoy it as they will probably find one (or more!) of the couples that they personally relate to on some level. Vince Vaughan is hilarious yet again (people that don't like him, really . . . I think there's no hope for them!) and it was nice to see him teamed up with John Favreau once more. There is a lot of T & A in this movie so that was nice, and also Kristen Bell is as hot as ever! The girl who played Vince Vaughan's wife is also really hot, but I'm not sure who she was. And the fact that a bet in the movie was decided by a game of Guitar Hero? Solid. Not the funniest movie of the year, but it's certainly up there!
