Review of Country Strong (2010) by Shawn B — 19 Apr 2011
I wanted to like this movie since some of my friends made cameos as the backing musicians. I live in Nashville. Play on Broadway sometimes. Also tour with major country star(s). This movie was beyond unrealistic.
From "The Stage" on lower Broadway to the live performances and the studio scenes. It actually pissed me off. The Stage is a bar on lower Broadway, yes. They made it look like an vintage Texas dance hall.
It's not. It's more of a college frat party, meat market hang. The bands play music by Journey, Kid Rock, and Van Halen. I hate the place to tell you the truth. There's no dressing room and no "Big Wigs' go there to see the next star is gonna be.
The filmakers made lower Broadway look desolate and romantic. Hedlund pulls up to the gig in his beat up pickup Cowboy hat on head and acoustic guitar in hand. Finds parking out front no less. Plays an earthy americana sounding song.
.... Bullshit. This portrayal of my town made me vomit in my own mouth a little. I love the earthy Americana sound but you're not gonna hear it on lower broadway much less at the fucking Stage. I can go on and on about this movie but I don't want to waste my time.
This movie sucked ass on too many levels to even describe.
