Review of Countess Dracula (1971) by Jeff B — 29 Nov 2010
I'd heard this was a weaker addition to the Hammer library, and I can see why it might be disappointing to some, as the title is a complete misnomer, and the film has nothing to do with Dracula. However, I think there's plenty to like in this dark fairy tale about an aging queen who bathes in the blood of virgins to restore her youth.
While the plot is perhaps a bit thin, ultimately it's a compelling tragedy of jealousy, lust and humanity's obsession with youth.
