Review of Cosmopolis (2012) by Zoran N — 12 Oct 2012
Although Cronenberg creates a venal and other-worldly ambience with his tale of upper echelon NY financiers, the studied dialogue and blank morality had me nodding into my cereal before the end of the first reel.
What exactly the movie is attempting to say about future capitalism and the role of ideas was obviously covered in more detail in De Lillo's novel, however, off the page, the script becomes forced and pretentious and doesn't translate well onto the screen (despite the best efforts of a sterling cast).
While its sleek and polished to look at, Cosmopolis doesn't provide the intellectual chills it aims to elicit from its audience. Stars for the cinematography.
