Review of Cosmopolis (2012) by Nate Z — 22 Mar 2013
Cosmopolis works as a film about philosophical discourse on capitalism and the meaning of existence in the modern world. There is chaos that is spontaneous, psychological examination of each character via minimalistic dialogues that evokes feelings of fear and violence.
As usual, Cronenberg's slick direction and hypnotic style plays out perfectly into a claustrophobic, nightmarish ride through New York City in an Armored Limousine. Pattison and the rest of the cast never overact, cause everyone has very minimal screentime but everyone produces a small impact because all of them are professional, but the former does not evoke memories of Cullen, he fits perfectly into the role and delivers a rigid performance.
The pace, due to the subject matter is slow, but most Cronenberg films are but they have a powerful subtext within each frame that keeps me glued.
