Review of Corvette Summer (1978) by Allan C — 26 Mar 2013
Mark Hamill is on a different sort of quest in his film follow-up to "Star Wars," this time trying to find his stolen Corvette Stingray with wacky companion Annie Potts. It's a pretty silly film, but what makes it most interesting is that it really showed that Hamill was fully capable of having a film career beyond Luke Skywalker.
He's not as cool as Harrison Ford, but he has a likable enough of screen presence that he should have had a more significant screen career. I think I remember seeing him in an episode of "Amazing Stories" and in "The Big Red One" but don't really remember seeing him in much until low budget sci-fi and Michael Dudikoff films later in the 80s and 90s.
Director/Co-writer Matthew Robbins has made some interesting and eclectic films, from "Dragonlayer" to "Sugarland Express" to "Mimic," and this film is about as enjoyable as his other films.
This one is pretty light an breezy, but is an enjoyable enough of a comedy/romance. And in my book, any film with Brion James in it is worth watching.
