Review of Coraline (2009) by Paul R — 14 Jul 2012
This film really sticks in my mind and this is mainly due to it being the most scary children's film I have ever seen. The opening sequence see's some sharp metal hands unpicking the stitching on a dolls face - I can still see it in my mind now.
The kid behind me in the cinema said 'Mom - I'm scared' to which I turned around and said 'me too!' Coraline is the story of a girl who finds another world which is a dark, bizarre but preferred version of her family and home.
At first it seems perfect but the cracks start to show and the darkness begins to seep into the story. If you are watching it with your kids - be prepared for them to be a little scared. On a positive note it has some fantastic animation with bizarre and barmy characters who are fun and fantastical.
It's a great film that is full of imagination and wonder. If you are after an intelligent, dark and visually stunning animation - feast your eyes on this.
