Review of Coraline (2009) by Fawn O — 23 Feb 2014
Spurred from the thrilling imagination of Neil Gaiman (and his horrific children's novel by the same name), Coraline is a pungently macabre cautionary tale about a young girl who stumbles into a parallel reality when she discovers a mysterious little door in her parent's new home.
The eerily brilliant colour scheme and Gothic filters aid the smooth and highly sophisticated stop-motion of Sellick's design -- it is on par with the equally ominous James and the Giant Peach. Finally, another animated film that respects the intelligence of its young audience.
