Review of Copying Beethoven (2006) by Andrew S — 29 Jan 2013
Absolutely Incredible. I think that Beethoven's [well, the actor haha] description of what [good] music is and what [good] musicians are used the most simple and profound terms that they could have hoped to use in that time period. And that's not far off from what we would say today. It also portrayed the suffering that musicians endure to create beauty excellently. And even while exploring the completeness of purpose in thier music-making, it still keeps you earthbound in a often less-than-pleasent reality. Also presents the idea of music as a living thing, which won't fit in "normal" structure. Often things are hard to understand because their ideas are taken from the extemes of human experience which most of us haven't experienced.
Bravo!!
