Review of Cop Land (1997) by King L — 10 Jun 2017
Other than the first Rocky movie and "First Blood," the first Rambo movie I haven't really liked any of Sylvester Stallone's films. I especially disliked "Judge Dredd," it was dreadful! This movie is an exception.
I thought Stallone was very good in this film. The fact that Robert DeNiro was in was a big factor, I probably would not have rented it if he wasn't in it. DeNiro is an exceptional actor. DeNiro plays an internal affairs detective investigating corrupt New York City cops.
He elicits the aid of the sheriff of a small town in New Jersey, played by Stallone, where many of the corrupt policemen live. At first the sheriff is reluctant to help because the corrupt cops are supposed to be friends but changes his mind later because he realizes the corrupt cops are just using him.
The end of the movie is like a modern version of a western showdown much like "High Noon.".
