Review of Cop Land (1997) by Per H — 27 Aug 2012
Its a good movie not a great movie which is what you would expect from this cast. Stallone plays a small town NJ sheriff who dreamed of being a NYC cop but due to a childhood shooting accident, left him deaf in one ear, thus not eligible for that job. The irony is the town he is in is populated almost entirely by NYC cops, so he has pretty much a tin star. Problems start to increase due to the corruption of most of the cops who live in town and stare.
Stallone in the face when DeNiro, playing a NYC internal affairs cop, comes asking about all the cops who live in town and asking Stallone for help. It is a timeless tale of what to do; so loyalty to your friends or do the right thing and turn them in. Stallone does a good job as he struggles with this question in a slow witted way. Liota also is very good playing a strung out cop who goes to far in trying to get more money. The rest of the cast is left with little to do and due to sporadic appearances we have little to care about them or their story.
