I feel the extreme nature of this film's plot description made it fail expectation. Nazi-like guards? Seriously? Far from it. The prisoners didn't even get regular beatings a la Shawshank.
Luke was set up to be a martyr messiah to the team, but really all he did was act cool as a cucumber until he pulled a punk stunt. It's not hat I couldn't get behind his cause, as he was in a hard labor camp for only vandalizing municipal property, but I couldn't quite understand the praise this movie gets.
