Review of Conviction (2010) by Adam C — 16 Aug 2011
Conviction is the beautiful retelling of a true story that shows just how far a sister will go for the brother that she loves. The thing I truly enjoyed about it was its sole focus on its characters, and the performances put on by Hilary Swank and Sam Rockwell were not only believable but uplifting and inspirational.
When it came to filling in the back story, the editing stitched together the passage of time in a way that never left you wondering what was happening; it all flowed naturally and the events occured in the perfect order necessary to make you care.
There's always conflict present in feature film, it's a core part of its construction, but rarely do things seem as dire and hopeless as they do in Conviction. If you ever catch yourself thinking about giving up on something you care about, give this one a watch.
