Review of Conviction (2010) by Brad S — 04 Jan 2012
This is a tough one for me as it has a good story with some good performances, and is also quite inspiring, but it didn't fully work for me. I think the problem lies in the screenplay that isn't quite strong enough, and another director perhaps could have done more.
It played very much like a movie of the week, but that being said the supporting performances by Rockwell and Driver are excellent. I didn't fully buy Swank in her role and there were a few character issues and logistical problems with the story that I had.
One glaring issue I had is that they are so convinced he is innocent, but takes forever to come to the conclusion that the witnesses that put him away were lying. So, check this one out if the story seems interesting to you or if a fan of Sam Rockwell.
