Review of Control (2013) by Grant S — 16 Jan 2009
Excellently acted, beautifully made movie. Very bleak and stark - black and white filming really added to the movie. The music was well integrated into the movie and quite impressivley performed. I'm not sure it's a movie for everyone, it certainly helped to know the band and music.
I only had 2 criticisms - it's a shame we didn't see more of the creative drive and process here. He was a very talented writer and performer, more than just an uncommuncative, depressed young guy. The other was the setting, while the north was horribly depressed at that time even Macclesfield in '76-'80 had moved past the 1950s - what was with the ancient cars, pram etc? The reality of the time didn't need this over the top treatment.
