Review of Control (2013) by Susan R — 07 Aug 2010
Shot in black and white this film comes across as more moody arthouse film than a standard biopic. While it is sad that Curtis died at a such a young age on what seemed like the precipice of an amazing career, the incredibly short time span makes it a bit hard to relate to him.
Based on videos I've seen of Joy Division performances, Sam Riley does a great job with Ian on stage, and perfectly conveys his inner turmoil, however once the film is over and the visuals have stopped, you realize you've experience style over substance, which may be completely accurate.
