I knew shit all about Ian Curtis and Joy Division apart from the title of their most popular song and the fact that Curtis killed himself. Saying that, I was pleasantly surprised and very impressed with this.

Shot in a beautifully stark black and white, which seemed to play as some visual representation of Curtis' bleak outlook on life, this by far the most real biopic of a musician I've ever seen. None of the glam of "Ray" or "Walk The Line" will be found here. Only an honest (as far as I know) portrayal of the boy who became the man who fronted the band that inspired much of the new-wave and post-punk music to emerge in the years following his death.

I'm not sure if that sentence was grammatically correct, but it sure was fun to write.
